HVAC NOTES FOR CLEANER AIR
Our goal is a healthy environment for everyone
Clean air is our priority. Using our furnace effectively will go a long way to achieving that goal. Here are a few tips on using the cabin furnace to help filter the air.
1. Take lots of Air quality readings
Use the AirThings monitor. You can record readings yourself on the Air Quality Page or forward them to admin@signanttwo.com so we can add them to the data base. This will give us a better history of air quality in the cabin. We can use this to determine what steps we need to take to improve air quality.
2. Use a good quality furnace filter
Change the furnace filter regularly.
Clean filters allow for better air movement and more efficient particle removal. A dirty filter restricts air movement and is less efficient. Good quality filters trap more particles so they will clog up a bit faster. The filters we use should be changed every 2 1/2 to 3 months.
3. Check the MERV Value
When purchasing air filters, a MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating of 11 or higher or an MPR (Microparticle Performance Rating) of 1000 or more should be purchased (click on adjacent chart for larger version)

Sheila and Ron purchased the following furnace filters from RONA Spring 2023. Family can decide whether or not the MERV rating is high enough for the thorough filtration that we desire. It is supposed to take care of pet hair and dander. There are filters with higher ratings available.

4. Check the Thermostat Settings
During summer when the furnace is not used to heat the cabin, set the thermostat as shown in the adjacent image.
5. Check the Furnace Vents
In order to ensure that there is good air flow, check the air registers to make sure that they are open
